Pack Up And Go: 5 Great Places To Caravan In South East Queensland
Towbars and caravans go together like gloves and hands, and we here at Mobile Towbar Fitting love a good caravan holiday! However, we know how busy life can get and we know most people can’t afford to go off on extended jaunts too often. Luckily, we live in an incredibly beautiful part of the world and great weekends away are pretty much on our doorstep! Even if it’s just an hour or two away from home, if you find the right spot, it’s not hard to slip into that relaxed, carefree, holiday state of mind.
Here are 5 top picks for spots in South East Queensland where you can turn up with your caravan, pop on a barbie, and regenerate. (The list is in no particular order, it just really depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for, they all have their unique charms.)
1. Bongaree Caravan Park, Bribie Island
So close to the water you almost get your feet wet, Bongaree Caravan Park is run by the Moreton Bay Council and offers all the standard amenities. One of the biggest draw cards here is the proximity to the water – there are 15 powered waterfront sites. It’s a fairly small caravan park overall so you won’t be overrun with crowds. Bribie Island is a little gem that we think it’s set to seriously boom once people realise what they’re missing!Get a holiday or two in now while it’s still got some of that old time charm.Website here: Bongaree Caravan Park
2. Boreen Point Campground, Lake Cootharaba (Pictured)
Imagine, the sound of the lake gently lapping at the shore, you sitting under the shade with your favourite beverage and maybe a book to read or a line out to catch dinner, and the kids wearing themselves out kayaking, swimming, and generally exploring. Ahhhhh, sounds lovely! While definitely more in the ‘basic’ category than at the ‘luxury’ end, Boreen Point Campground is just the natural reset the doctor ordered. How’s the serenity!Website here: Boreen Point Campground
3. Kenilworth Homestead, Sunshine Coast
Located just 2km from the quaint little town of Kenilworth, the homestead offers a great gateway to exploring the various hinterland delights of the Sunshine Coast. The property is a sprawling piece of paradise offering a range of accommodation from unpowered and powered sites, through to onsite vintage caravans and luxury ‘spa rooms’. Open school holidays and long weekends, you can ride, swim, canoe, fish, hike, and have a good old fashioned open fire.Website here: Kenilworth Homestead
4. Mt Barney Lodge, Mount Barney
Situated southwest of the Gold Coast, approximately 2 hours away from Brisbane, is the picturesque Mt Barney Lodge. If you’re craving a rural getaway, this one’s for you. For those bringing their own accommodation, it’s back to basics with unpowered sites only, and no generators allowed. Peace and quiet abound! At just $16 per adult per night, and kids cheaper, it’s the perfect wallet friendly nature immersion. Wake up to mountain views, explore the local creek, and stay curious about what local wildlife you might see!Website here: Mt Barney Lodge
5. Gold Coast Holiday Park, Helensvale
Did someone say ‘Theme parks’?! Whether you have kids, or you’re just a big kid at heart, staying at Gold Coast Holiday Park means all of the state’s biggest and best are right on your doorstep. Whether it’s Dreamworld, Seaworld, Movieworld, Wet’n’wild, or all of the above, they’re all right there. Although, with a heated pool, onsite cafe, tennis court, jumping pillow, petting zoo, and bike track, you might find it hard to leave the holiday park! Added bonus: You favourite canine friend is welcome too!Website here: Gold Coast Holiday Park
